Counter-Drone Device from Battelle

Battelle DroneDefender Counter-UAS device looks like a serious piece of military hardware to say the least. The device is designed to disrupt control of the drone, without the need for detonation, effectively neutralizing it, whilst minimizing harm and risk to public safety from falling debris.

While once possessed solely by the military, small unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs), or drones, are currently widely available now to the general public. With increased accessibility comes risk,  particularly to government personnel.

Yet, conventional defense mechanisms against UAVs, such as shooting them down, aren’t tenable within the U.S. under current regulations.  Just how can drones be defended against then?

The solution is Battelle’s DroneDefender apparatus, which utilizes a non-kinetic solution to shield airspace at ranges of 0 – >400 meters from UAVs, like quadcopters and hexacopters, without compromising security or risking collateral damage. No extensive training is required by the easy-to-use point-and-shoot system.

This innovative system offers instantaneous disruption of unwanted UAVs with two different defenses:

  • Remote control drone disruption
  • GPS disruption

Demonstrated and successfully tested, the DroneDefender device has supplied a response in federal field presentations. GPS disturbance reactions and the remote management are fast-acting, leading to instant threat mitigation.

  • Runs for 2 hours
  • Weighs 15 pounds
  • Multiple antennas
  • Disruption electronics
  • Battery operated
