You’re Invited – InterDrone Calling All Droneographers to Fourth Annual Film Festival

Are you a drone enthusiast seeking a creative high, or a film maker who wants to rise above the rest? Then this could be for you – InterDrone, the one of the largest commercial drone events in North America, is calling out for all interested drone videographers to enter their fourth film festival. With the conference itself experiencing consistent growth in attendance numbers each year, it’s sure to be an excellent opportunity for exposure.

From natural wonders to real estate and resorts, cityscapes to humanitarian themes, sports and industry, the InterDrone Film Festival last year presented a total of 25 drone short films. Countries from all around the globe were represented, including Patagonia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Switzerland and Greece to name a few. Overall People’s Choice Winner was won by Avian Cyclops in the Natural Wonders category for their film “Camino Al Sur”.

Greg Leighton from the UK was judged Natural Wonders Winner for his sequence on the Philippines. It’s a mesmerising piece that soundly captures the beauty of the island country.

“The Aftermath” by Nelson Aerial Productions, which captured the tragic devastation of Hurricane Matthew, the Category 5 Atlantic hurricane that hit Haiti in late 2016, was awarded winner of the Humanitarian category.

Winner of the Action/Extreme Sports category was awarded to Air Reel Production’s “Poseidon”, a majestic portrayal of the giant seas and the surfers that braved them after a hurricane hit California. It’s frightening and inspiring all at once.

Last year’s other winners included “A New Day in San Francisco” by Mark Tammy (USA) for Cityscapes and Architecture, “Beauty & Bounty” by Doug Armknecht (USA) for Industrial and Commercial, “Athenium Films Showreel” by Athenium Films (FRA) for the Reel category and “Acqualina Hotel and Spa, Miami FL” by Jeff Fidelin for the Real Estate / Resort category.

Entries for this year’s film festival have been open since November last year so we’re hoping you’ve already made a start on your submission. No need to worry if you haven’t however, there is still plenty of time left with drone films due by July 9 – a full five months away. This year’s festival judges are looking to award winners in the following seven categories as well as an Overall Winner (with a grand prize of $3,000 that is not to be sniffed at!):

  • Natural Wonders
  • Cityscapes and Architecture
  • Action/Extreme Sports
  • Reel
  • Real Estate & Resort Marketing
  • Special Events (Weddings etc.)
  • Breaking/Live News

A People’s Choice Award will also be awarded in each category. The InterDrone Film and Photo Festival now also features an option to submit Drone Photography (still photos) in the same category (excluding Reel). Successful submissions will be notified of their entry into the festival’s event night to be held on the evening of Wednesday September 5, 2018, during a reception for InterDrone, at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
