A new system that uses one or more jet engines to remove unmanned aircraft from restricted airspace just emerged online – in the form of a patent published by Bruce Kusens and assigned by Collateral Opportunities LLC.
The new system is interesting because it uses the force that is created by a jet engine to remove drones or other unwanted objects from the restricted airspace. Once it determines the presence of an unauthorized aircraft or object within that space, the jet engines are activated and used to pull the dron or flying object towards the jet engine, creating the intake of jet engines to expel the drones from the restricted areas through the force created by the jet engines.
The begins with a description of the jet’s infrastructure. Typically, this is a jet engine that uses a gas turbine and is composed of a compressor which has blades that spin rapidly.
Thanks to this, the jet draws in air and compresses it which actually converts the air to a high-pressure gas. Then, fuel is injected into the gas and ignited, which increases the gas’ temperature and pressure.
The action decreases the pressure and increases the gas’ velocity, as explained by the author. This is what creates thrust – and what allows most of the jet aircrafts to fly. Thus, jet engines create enormous amounts of force from both drawing air in through their intakes as well as expelling air out of the back of the engine through the exhaust.
With this, the force created by the jet engine is used to remove drones or unwanted objects from flying in restricted airspace, preferably by pulling them towards the jet engine through the force created by its intake.
The author examines the system and shows it in full detail with illustrations and sketches of the jet engines used to clear drones away from the sky. What’s unique is the fact that when this drone removal system is activated, it can automatically determine the level of force necessary to expel the object from the restricted area or activate to preprogrammed levels of force.
More importantly, the control system uses information received from the 3D Motion and Sound Sensor of the drone, identifying objects that are entering or approaching the restricted area. As such, the software can be pre-programmed to recognize natural objects compared to the man-made objects, in this scenario referring to drones.
On top of this, there will be a system for automatically responding to an unauthorized flying object that is approaching. As the paper cites:
“A system for automatically responding to an unauthorized flying object that is approaching or which has entered a restricted airspace , comprising of:
The response to an unauthorized flying object that is approaching or which entered a restricted airspace will comprise a number of steps. Initially, the motion and sound sensors will send the information to the center, electronically forwarding the digital video to a computerized area programmed to recognize when an unauthorized flying object is approaching.
Then, the process continues with the step of determining whether the unauthorized flying object is truly restricted – after which the jet engine is activated by the computerized monitoring system to respond to the object and blast it away from the restricted airspace.
Because of the ease and relative simplicity of this project in terms of explanation, the patent submission is very popular in the tech market right now – and has a massive potential to make this system a reality in the years to come.
