DJI’s New Mavic 2 Enterprise for Search and Rescue

DJI the Chinese drone maker just announced the Mavic 2 Enterprise — a modular $1,999 version of the Mavic 2 Zoom — that is better suited for tasks like inspection or search and rescue. The Mavic 2 Enterprise or the M2E is essentially a Mavic 2 Zoom tweaked for enterprise. It comes equipped with a 12 megapixel camera, stabilized by a three-axis gimbal for “smooth video and images,” and 2x optical and 3x digital zoom.

DJI says its imaging hardware that makes M2E ideal for critical operations like firefighting, emergency response, law enforcement, and infrastructure inspections.

The Mavic 2 Enterprise features:

  • A spotlight with a brightness of 2,400 lumens for low-light rescue missions whose angle is adjusted manually before the flight.
  • A loudspeaker for voice recording playback. It doesn’t cater for live broadcast of vocal messages, but can play up to 10 custom recordings on demand.
  • A flashing strobe beacon for night-time or low-light missions (or to alert nearby aircraft of its presence) that makes the aircraft visible from up to three miles away and is designed according to (FAA) Night Waiver standards.
  • DJI’s onboard AirSense tech: an integrated receiver that alerts drone pilots of ADS-B signals from nearby aircarft via the DJI Pilot mobile app in real-time. The company describes it as an “extra layer of protection” for operators who fly in congested airspace or near complicated operations, such as wildfire suppression, disaster recovery and infrastructure monitoring. AirSense provides real-time positioning alerts through the DJI Pilot mobile app.
  • A “self-heating” battery that DJI says will allow it to fly in colder weather as low as – 10° C (14° F).
  • It has 24GB of onboard storage, versus 8GB on the Mavic 2 Zoom.
  • Extra built in security by password-protecting the drone. The user needs to punch in a code any time they activate the drone, connect the controller, or access the onboard storage.
  • Footage accountability is further ensured by a GPS timestamp that’s encoded onto the time, date and location of each recorded image.
  • DJI’s Local Data Mode can be activated prevents the operator’s connected mobile device from sending or receiving any data over the internet.
  • The M2E makes use of DJI’s latest video and data transmission system, with support for both 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequency bands. “Ocusync 2.0 delivers such a strong high definition video transmission feed back to the pilot that it could be received up to nearly five miles (8 km) away, though all drone pilots must follow applicable laws about keeping drones within their line of sight.”

The Mavic 2 Enterprise Universal Edition goes on sale today for $1,999 which includes the aircraft, a remote controller, one battery, all three mountable accessories and a protector case with flight tools. Paying an additional $419 can get users a Fly More Kit with two batteries, a charging hub, a car charger, a USB connector two spare props and a soft carry case.
