Hi Josh, can you please tell us a little bit about who you are, and what you do?

Hey everyone, my name’s Josh. I’m a 29 year old based in Sydney but currently travelling around South East Asia. I run a small agency doing Website Design & Development, Social Media Management & Content Creation. This allows me the freedom to work remotely and with that freedom I try my best to produce photos & videos daily.

How long have you been working as an aerial photographer? What got you into it, and why?

On the 19th of March 2017, I announced on my Instagram that I will be posting daily for an entire year. That is when it all started and it has lead me to where I am today.

I’ve mucked around with a lot of other things before I went all in on photography. I’ve always had appreciation for beautiful things around me and at the same time, I also had the urge to create & hopefully inspire the people around me. I knew I wanted to content create but was it daily vlogging? Doing a Podcast or a Blog? Or taking photos & videos? After trying various things over a period of time, I would say the path presented itself and I knew that this what I should be doing daily as of right now. I was receiving enough external inspiration and validation of my skillsets to move forward with it.

Content creators that really inspired me to go out there and do the same are @yantastic, @safromabove, @itchban, and @airpixels

Such great work in such a short time! Your Instagram shows a love of colour and form. Please elaborate more on what draws you to aerial photography?

I love all sorts of Photography. Urban, Street, Portraits, Landscapes. In my opinion, good photography is very objective. It’s the interpretation of it that is subjective. In saying that, I’m drawn to the whole lot but I chose aerial photography because of the “WOW” factor. Whenever my drone lifts off in a new location, I’m always in awe with what comes up on my screen. If you ever see me flying in person, you’ll definitely hear me yelling a lot. “Omggggggggg look at it! It’s SO SICK!”

We love the “WOW” factor too. Where are your favourite locations to shoot? Why?

So far, I’ve shot in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand.

Thailand is my favourite as of right now as the landscape is amazingly breathtaking! Beautiful tropical islands with crystal clear water! I’ve only really seen photos like these online or on postcards and now I’m creating them?! The entire creation process from shooting to editing the photos. Love every moment of it.

Bali is up next, so my favourite location might change then.

What conditions do you look for to capture a great aerial moment?

As my feed is vibrant and full of colours, I look for Sunrises, Sunsets with nice clean light and shadows. They are my favourite times to shoot.

What would be your perfect bucket list capture?

Iceland. I’ve seen too many epic photos on Instagram and I have to go there very soon!

That’s definitely a popular destination! What do you fly, and what do you love about it?

I was flying a Phantom 4 before and a Mavic pro now. Love the Mavic! I get to save so much on travelling space & Weight and it shoots PORTRAIT! It’s perfect for Instagram as I can get my composition spot on every time.

What would be your next drone purchase? Why?

Probably the next update of the DJI Mavic Pro. Nothing beats the portability of it!

How do you see the drone technology expanding or changing in the next 5 years?

I see drones becoming a very common equipment for everyone. It’s definitely a tool that everyone should have to capture and share their experiences to the world.  It’s evident as the prices of smaller drones like the Mavic & Spark are becoming more affordable to the general public.

The next 20 years?

I haven’t really put much thought into that. Ask me 15 years from now!

OK will do! Where can readers find out more about what you do?

I’m very active on Instagram. I try my best to post daily so that’s the best place to catch me.
