Drones will feature in a mobile game called Jurassic World Alive this spring, it has been announced by Universal Studios.

Roaring into the iOS App Store and Android’s Google Play in time for the premiere of the new Jurassic World movie, the mobile game works on a very similar augmented reality platform to that of Pokémon GO. Using the mobile game app, the player makes a collection with dinosaurs, and can also create new morphs of creatures by mixing DNA from prehistoric beasts.

Like Pokémon GO, players will have to walk through the streets of their neighborhood to locate dinosaurs and catch them. Players can also battle each other in a system not unlike Pokémon GO’s gyms.

A new twist however is the inclusion of an option to manage a virtual drone, allowing the player to walk through streets without leaving home, capturing dinosaurs remotely, as well as collecting DNA samples and create hybrids of dinosaurs with which to fight against other players.

At the time of its release the game will feature more than 100 different dinosaur types, although its creators say they will expand the catalog of creatures with dinosaurs of the film, new hybrids and superhybrid calls, the equivalent to the legendary creatures of Niantic, the creators of Pokémon GO

“Definitely, the element of discovery will be present, but we wanted to be a little more flexible about the possibility of participating without leaving home,” explained Chris Heatherly, Executive Vice President of Universal’s games division.

Jurassic World Alive is developed by the studio Ludia, responsible for Jurassic World: The Game, who say they will have the game ready for iOS and Android before the premiere of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. For the time being, pre-registration is now available on the official site, to receive updates on its development and its launch date.

The Jurassic World empire is also capitalising on the toy drone market with a pteranadon-like ‘Ptera-Drone’, which was introduced at the Mattel Toy Fair 2018 last month. It’s such a cool little thing we’re sure Jurassic Park fans won’t be able to resist.
