The DJI Phantom 4 Pro is the 4th generation of the extremely popular Phantom range made by Chinese drone maker DJI.

The most recent version of the Phantom family, it was unveiled in November 2016 with numerous features making it DJI’s best selling drone for its time.

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro has proven itself one of the best models in the market for recreational drones since its release.

Powerful, autonomous, versatile and innovative, the quadcopter adapts to many uses and is the perfect tool for all aspiring filmmakers who will enjoy a high image quality.

The drone has delighted all fans of new technologies, including newbies thanks to its Ready-to-Fly character and its foolproof handling, making it a benchmark for the market.

So, is this Pro version aptly named? This is what we will detail.

About the DJI Phantom 4 Pro

Thanks to its Flight Autonomy system, the DJI Phantom 4 Pro is able to detect obstacles in 5 directions and thus allows any beginner to control it without danger. In addition, the ActiveTrack feature can, on demand, lock a subject (a skier, a herd of buffalo or a car for example) and follow it by filming it to facilitate complex shooting.

Real cinema material, in short!

The Phantom 4 Pro + version also includes a remote control that displays the DJI Go application on its screen that allows you to control the device by viewing its live environment, while offering the possibility to edit and share images in real time. It also includes all the characteristics of the flight in real time: speed, altitude, information concerning shooting, distance to the user.

In the application, the pilot can activate Draw mode which allows him to draw a trajectory directly on the landscape. The UAV then only has to follow this route thanks to its autopilot, while sailing at a locked altitude. The user can thus concentrate on his realization of videos.

In addition, the Visual Positioning System allows the Phantom 4 Pro to photographically record its take-off runway and return to it autonomously in an emergency using the Return to Home mode, which calculates the ideal return route based on surrounding conditions. And as the quadcopter records a lot of course data during the flight, it works even if the connection with remote control has been interrupted!

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro is equally effective indoors thanks to its tripod mode, which allows pilots to navigate safely in more confined spaces. Another mode, TapFly, offers the pilot to simply touch the place where he wants to send the Phantom 4 Pro so that it goes directly there, while keeping the possibility to use the joysticks to change course. he wishes it.

Its camera, boasting an improved image processing system, will allow you to film or take a picture of the most beautiful landscapes, but also sports scenes thanks to its new generation design which offers more details but also more useful data in post-production.

A brand new feature has also appeared on the DJI Phantom 4 Pro: the Selfie mode. This allows the drone to take a photo of his pilot without him having to direct it, leaving free course to his movements to get the scene. Just raise your arms to the sky, then take the break for the 3 seconds remaining before the capture of the photo.

Features of the DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro is equipped with a 1-inch camera with a 20-megapixel CMOS mechanical shutter. Able to capture videos in H.264 4K at 60 frames per second or in H.265 at 30 fps – both formats offering a bit rate of 100 Mb / s – the drone can also take pictures in burst at 14 fps. The speed of the machine can reach 72 km / h in Sport mode, without degrading the images thanks to a 3-axis stabilizer.

As for the design side, DJI is still used on a Phantom with finishes of undeniable quality. All electronic equipment is protected by a cabin made of titanium and magnesium and contains two stereo optical sensors at the rear and another pair at the front. With that, infrared detectors have been integrated to avoid obstacles on 4 directions.

The transmission distance of the Phantom 4 Pro is 7 kilometers, as for its flight time, it is 30 minutes (the higher the video quality, the longer the battery life). You will indeed be entitled to a Li-Po battery of 15.2 V for 5870 mAh. Allow about 1:20 to fully charge.

The device weighs 1388 grams and measures 35 cm diagonally. It can reach a climbing speed of 6 meters per second and rise up to 6,000 meters above the sea level, so mountaineers can use it without problem.

The wind resistance of the machine is also very good, with an average of 10 m / s which allows it to fly in bumpy weather conditions.

The remote control supplied with the DJI Phantom 4 Pro in its Plus version gives pride of place to a 5.5-inch IPS panel offering Full HD (1080p) resolution.

It has a battery life of 5 hours and its brightness is excellent, even in direct sunlight.

The DJI Go application is available on the Android and iOS platforms and allows you to control the DJI drone with the classic version of the remote control, which does not include a screen but relies on the smartphone to work.

Due to the popularity of this model, DJI no longer sell it – so your only problem is, do you buy the next generation Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 for $US1,499, or the Phantom 4 Advanced for $US1,199?
