DJI Mavic 2 Pro ‘World’s First Drone with Integrated Hasselblad Camera’
The anticipation in the lead up to DJI’s launch tomorrow of its new Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom at 10am in New York is really heating up.
There have been images of both models leaked, rumours are flying and a plethora of claims in what is being called ‘DJI’s worst kept secret’.
We have covered all the leaks and rumours that have come our way so far and yes – now there are more.
Mavic 2 Pro
Of all the features that eagerly awaiting fans can surely count on, its the Hasselblad camera that will apparently be a major feature for the Mavic 2 Pro.
As some may recall, DJI acquired a major stake in iconic Swedish camera brand Hasselblad in early 2017.
Why they made this move was not entirely clear at the time, particularly as DJI was already producing lightweight, low-energy cameras to pack into its drone family while Hasselblad is known for its medium format, and quite heavy, professional cameras.
It seems the Swedish camera maker has taken up the challenge for DJI now – and indeed have produced a small 28mm eq. camera with which they are kitting out the Mavic 2 Pro.
This seems to have been confirmed again in both a press release posted by German photographer Benjamin Cortis, as well as in images leaked to the media of close ups of the front of both models.
“Mavic 2 Pro is the world’s first drone with an integrated Hasselblad camera for outstanding image quality with superior light and color performance.”
Housing a 1-inch CMOS sensor with a 10 bit color profile, the camera captures four times as many levels of color per channel compared to Mavic Pro to provide maximum flexibility for photo video editing,” the press release says.

Here is the close up of the Mavic 2 Pro which was prematurely published on German consumer electronics site GFU:
Mavic 2 Zoom
In comparison, the Mavic 2 Zoom has been reported to sport a 2x, 24-48mm optical zoom – but it’s better than that.
More details for the Zoom model have now been revealed in the press release, which says:
“Powered by a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, Mavic 2 Zoom is DJI’s first consumer drone with zoom, providing a dynamic perspective for a new era of aerial imaging and storytelling.”
With Mavic 2 Zoom, you can get closer to your subject at a moment’s notice by combining two-times optical zoom (24-48mm) with digital zoom to create a 98mm telephotos lens that captures lossless video infull HD resolution.”
With a focus on getting up close and personal, the high res image shows clearly the smaller camera lens of the Mavic 2 Zoom:
As if that weren’t enough to go on, there has also been a leaked image of what appears to be a Chinese spec sheet for all Mavic Pro/Zoom models.
The big question for us is still: will either model feature a one-key hyperlapse? OsitaLV thinks so:

We have to admit we think it would be just fantastic if it did; if so, DJI Mavic 2 owners will be able to create amazing sequences like this one by Rufus Blackwell did using a DJI Inspire and Osmo.
