If you are rubbing shoulders with drone enthusiasts, you probably know that one of the largest drone manufacturers, DJI, has recently announced the DJI Mavic 2 – as the second series of a legendary drone and a completely new aerial photography system that every enthusiast will love.

DJI Mavic 2 ProThe Partnership That Gives DJI a New Camera Perspective

Obviously, the best way to start reviewing a new drone on the market is right from its camera, lens, and specifications. For the newest edition of the Mavic 2 Pro, DJI partnered with the Swedish camera manufacturer Hasselblad. DJI acquired a major stake in iconic Swedish camera brand Hasselblad in early 2017.

DJI Mavic 2 ProRenowned for their “iconic ergonomic design, Swedish craftsmanship and uncompromising image quality” as DJI describes them, the Swedish company brings a lot of novelties in the new DJI drone. With a history of making cameras that dates back to 1941, the new Hasselblad L1D-20c camera that is integrated in the DJI Mavic 2 Pro possesses many unique systems and helps users to capture amazing 20-megapixel aerial shots with impeccable color detail.

Sharp and With Improved Low-light Shooting Options

Basically, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro features the collaboratively developed Hasselblad L1D-20c camera and with that brings a lot of innovative experiences to the field – as well as advancements in terms of its photo-capturing capabilities.

The Hasselblad L1D-20c is also known as a ‘state-of-the-art’ camera when it comes to aerial photography. According to many reviews, this camera excels when it comes to crisp and sharp quality aerial image.

What’s actually newer, aside from the new camera, are the amazing low-light shooting capabilities which take things up a notch and prove that DJI has been working on low-light modes and ranges – to bring them with the utmost color accuracy in the new model.

The Hasselblad Natural Color Solution (HNCS)

Speaking of camera and color accuracy, the solution DJI and Hasselblad have been working on is named the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution – nicknamed HNCS. In many ways, this technology allows image capturing with the utmost color accuracy. As such, it adapts to the imaging process of the Mavic 2 Pro and ramps up the features of this amazing commercial drone.

While the HNCS is the main reason behind the wider spectrum of colors in each image, the Hasselblad L1D-20c camera is ‘guilty’ for the amazing low-light images. Combined, the color accuracy and natural color selection result in a sharp and clear imagery.

Most importantly, this system takes out the daunting task of having to select from multiple presets – and gives ready and still images paired with tonal rendering features.

Other Important Features

Aside from the 20 megapixel camera, 10-but Dlog-M and 10-bit HDR video as well as the above-stated features, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro excels when it comes to flight time.

Even with such robust technology and infrastructure in it, the Mavic 2 Pro manages to fly for a maximum of 31 minutes, upping the standard in every possible way. Also, the 2x Optical Zoom Features and Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing make the drone very independent and easy to control.

However, the Dlog-M color profile is what the tech reviewers and analysts described as ‘most amazing’ in the new camera technology of the DJI Mavic 2 Pro. This color profile actually yields a higher dynamic range and therefore gives more flexibility in the grading room. With over 1 billion colors recorded in its lens (compared to the 15 million colors in the standard 8-bit color coding technologies), this color profile sets a new standard in the industry and shows impeccable details in both highlights and shadows. Whether it’s noon, sunset or midnight, it will excel and leave a great space for post-production.
