DJI has announced an ultra-portable take on its popular Osmo camera-gimbal line. The Osmo Pocket is a four-inch-tall version of the drone maker’s camera stabilizer that can either be plugged into an iPhone or utilized as a standalone.

DJI has released a series of updates to the Osmo in the past including the smartphone-supporting Osmo Mobile.

The Osmo Pocket can shoot 12-megapixel photographs and 4K video at up to 60fps. “Innovation is at the heart of every product we create and DJI Osmo Pocket is here to change the way photos and videos are captured, not just by professionals but by parents, couples, adventurers, travelers and everyone in between,” DJI President Roger Luo said in a statement. “Osmo Pocket is a portable personal camera crew and we can’t wait to see how people use it to capture their stories and share them with the world.”

Priced at $349 it’s about twice what the Osmo Mobile 2 costs. That could be due to the inclusion of a one-inch touch screen that lets the user shoot and preview videos without an external camera. Also, it can be used in tandem with an iPhone or Android device via a Lighting or USB-C dongle.

Experts say that the Pocket incorporates DJI’s impressive technologies and shot modes to accomplish some pretty cool videos.

The device can actively recognize and track an image with a few taps additional to the in-built features like the FaceTrack, time-lapse, FPV, selfie and panorama. The Osmo Pocket is equipped with DJI’s ActiveTrack feature, which trains the Smartphone camera lens to follow a subject and has been available in its mobile app for a while. Now ActiveTrack will work directly on the Pocket’s built-in camera.

There are a number of different shot modes for quick, production-quality shots similar to the ones found on the company’s Mavic drones. Other capture settings will be available in DJI’s newest mobile app, called Mimo. This includes “Pro Mode,” which automatically detects low light scenes and lets the user adjust exposure settings. The “Story Mode,” that stitches together select video clips. The Pocket also captures wide-angle still photos, ideal for large-group selfies.

Just in time for the holidays DJI plans to offer a host of different accessories to make the Osmo diverse and  sought after, including a waterproof case and action camera-style mount. There’s a wireless charging case too which extends the battery by around two hours.

The Osmo Pocket is available through DJI  for pre-order today and starts shipping December 15.

DJI’s Osmo Pocket camera will likely compete with GoPro’s Hero 7, which offers stability through its digital HyperSmooth technology rather than a mechanical gimbal like the Osmo Pocket.

Currently the DJI Osmo pocket is said to be compatible with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.
